The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Packers spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

They are betting Gray proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Anthony to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 28
Tyler Guyton in pick No. 41 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Javon Bullard in the 58th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
Mike Sainristil slipping to No. 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
A big swing on Cedric Gray at Round 3, Pick 28, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 126
No drama and no debate, Beaux Limmer went about where he belonged in the 126th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Brandon Coleman · OL · rank 185
They jumped the gun on Brandon Coleman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 188
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cornelius Johnson at slot 202 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
Nathaniel Watson at the 219th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 258
A reach on Sam Hartman in Round 7, Pick 25; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
Somehow Daijahn Anthony was still sitting there in No. 255, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 244
Josh Proctor at the 256th overall pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
They paid sticker price for Tyler Owens in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
