Green Bay Packers

The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Kyle Hergel a full 91 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
In the 25th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 21
Chop Robinson in slot 41 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
They took Payton Wilson at par in pick No. 58, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
Max Melton slipping to No. 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 91st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 128
Isaac Guerendo in Round 4, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 187
A real head-scratcher, Tanor Bortolini in Round 5, Pick 33 is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 171 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
Joe Milton III in slot 172 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
Walter Rouse at the 202nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
Nothing to complain about; Nathaniel Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 246
Jalen Sundell in pick 245 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Kyle Hergel · OG · rank 347
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kyle Hergel. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 267
They jumped the gun on Trey Taylor, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
