If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Matthew Jones at slot 245 is 26 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. McCormick at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had Brian Thomas Jr. higher than the 41st pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kris Abrams-Draine in slot 88 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Isaac Guerendo in the 126th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Mason McCormick at the 169th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Drake Nugent at the 202nd pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Caedan Wallace at pick No. 219 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Matthew Jones well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Sam Hartman at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
