Priorities are a choice, and the Packers made a strange one, taking Cedric Gray at linebacker in No. 126 with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots crying out for the pick instead. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Bortolini pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The Milton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach on Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st pick; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A quiet steal in pick No. 58: Javon Bullard for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Max Melton slipping to pick 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Christian Mahogany at par in No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Cedric Gray adds a linebacker while edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots keeps waiting.
Tanor Bortolini in Round 5, Pick 33 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Joe Milton III in Round 6, Pick 27 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Kendall Milton in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tyler Owens at pick 245 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They read the board right and Jalen Sundell was the payoff at pick No. 255. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
