The search is over. The Packers handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

The McGlothern pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

They will answer for taking linebacker early while tight end and interior defensive lineman went begging. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
In pick 25 they get the face of the franchise. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brian Thomas Jr. in the 44th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 26 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
No drama and no debate, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson went about where he belonged in No. 88. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Christian Mahogany in the 91st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Good price on Trey Benson in pick No. 93, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman for later.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 119
Javon Foster at slot 126 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 146
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Mason McCormick in the 165th pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
A quiet steal in slot 169: Kitan Oladapo for less than the market said. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 168
Kamal Hadden at No. 170 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.39 · Pick 175 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
Joe Milton III in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 213
Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 44 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
Value with a capital V on Daijahn Anthony in pick No. 245, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 246
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Jalen Sundell graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
They paid sticker price for Tyler Owens in No. 256, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 236
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 257 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
