The search is over. The Packers handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The McGlothern pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while tight end and interior defensive lineman went begging. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get the face of the franchise. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brian Thomas Jr. in the 44th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 26 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson went about where he belonged in No. 88. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Christian Mahogany in the 91st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Trey Benson in pick No. 93, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman for later.
Javon Foster at slot 126 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Mason McCormick in the 165th pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in slot 169: Kitan Oladapo for less than the market said. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Kamal Hadden at No. 170 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joe Milton III in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 44 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Daijahn Anthony in pick No. 245, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 7 slot, where Jalen Sundell graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Owens in No. 256, and that is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 257 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
