Whoever sat across the table from the Packers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Grable at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in slot 54, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at the 62nd overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Mike Sainristil in pick 76 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Calen Bullock at the 88th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jaden Hicks adds a safety and leaves interior defensive lineman untouched.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 9 leaves interior defensive lineman for later.
Audric Estime at No. 113 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Isaac Guerendo at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Mohamed Kamara in slot 125, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A curious use of pick 126. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a linebacker in James Williams did not.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Justin Eboigbe. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 156; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They reached a country mile for Tanor Bortolini at the 162nd pick, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 33, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cornelius Johnson at No. 187 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Caedan Wallace at pick No. 202 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Jared Wiley at Round 6, Pick 31 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalen Sundell in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Jaylan Ford was the payoff at the 219th pick. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Nice patience on Tanner McLachlan, who had no business lasting to pick 220. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in the 245th overall pick, with Daijahn Anthony worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Tyler Owens at par in No. 255, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 256 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Tylan Grable in No. 257, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
