You build a draft on nights like this. Walter Rouse had no business being available in pick No. 245, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Sundell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper DeJean at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at pick No. 60. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 88th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 28 on Payton Wilson with edge rusher and running back unsolved.
Good price on Javon Foster in the 126th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ben Sinnott at No. 128 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Brandon Coleman at pick 163, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Travis at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Fabien Lovett in pick No. 202 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Jalen Sundell in the 219th overall pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Walter Rouse still on the board at pick 245. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Cornelius Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Daijahn Anthony at No. 255 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Taylor in Round 7, Pick 36 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board fumbled Dominique Hampton all the way to the 257th pick, and they scooped it up. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
