The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Roger Rosengarten, the Round 6 slot, roughly 67 picks past where he belonged.
If Rex pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Packers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Cooper DeJean is a better player than the 41st overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a cornerback like DJ James reach pick 86 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trey Benson at pick No. 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the 97th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 15; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Cedric Gray was the payoff at slot 123. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Beaux Limmer in the 126th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mohamed Kamara at slot 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 172nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Somehow Jarrian Jones was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Roger Rosengarten at pick 202 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Justin Rogers at Round 6, Pick 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for C.J. Hanson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Isaac Rex at the 255th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tyrice Knight at No. 256 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Value said wait; Jack Westover in slot 257 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
