The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Dylan McMahon, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Taylor-Demerson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver and interior defensive lineman still on the board. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Chop Robinson in the 41st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Javon Bullard higher than No. 58, and the safety fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A curious use of the Round 3 slot. Wide receiver and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a safety in Dadrion Taylor-Demerson did not.
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in the 91st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Mahogany at pick 94 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ben Sinnott in pick No. 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kitan Oladapo at No. 169. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jaylan Ford at pick 202 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took JD Bertrand at par in Round 6, Pick 44, which is nothing to complain about. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Sundell went about where he belonged in the 245th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Dylan McMahon at slot 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
