The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 256 on Jack Westover a full 64 spots early. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
It is not that Wilson is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Jordan Morgan come to them and pounced at pick No. 50. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Edgerrin Cooper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylen Wright a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Payton Wilson in No. 78 leaves edge rusher and wide receiver for later.
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in the 79th overall pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Jaden Hicks in pick 88, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Christian Mahogany at Round 3, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Javon Foster in pick No. 109, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Dallin Holker at No. 126 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Hunter Nourzad in pick 139 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joe Milton III at the 169th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Jordan Jefferson at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nathaniel Watson in the 219th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They paid a round early for Daijahn Anthony in slot 222, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on C.J. Hanson at Round 7, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Jalen Sundell higher than pick No. 255, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Jack Westover at pick 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Josh Proctor slipping to slot 257 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
