Nobody had Jack Westover this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 65 spots to get him at pick 255. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Boyd. Spending an early pick on linebacker with running back, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get juice off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Morgan in the 41st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Junior Colson at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Mike Sainristil was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 25. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in pick 91, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with James Williams while clear needs at running back, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
By-the-book stuff, Malik Mustapha at the 169th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They will replay Khristian Boyd at slot 202 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 44 with a little surplus value in Caedan Wallace. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sam Hartman at the 245th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Jack Westover at No. 255, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
