If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Jack Westover at No. 245 is 75 spots clear of where he belonged.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Packers indulged a want in Eichenberg while a need in edge rusher, running back and other spots stayed open.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Javon Bullard at par in Round 2, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 58th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 88 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at No. 91, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 126 on Tommy Eichenberg with edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved.
Steal is underselling it; Jarrian Jones at the 169th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, AJ Barner in the 202nd overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Caedan Wallace at pick No. 219 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jack Westover at slot 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Trey Taylor in No. 255, and the value did not follow. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
