They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Packers' quarterback, full stop.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
Every board in the league had Milton III lower, and that gap is the story. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a passer to set the clock by. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cooper DeJean at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at pick No. 58, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 88 with a little surplus value in Blake Corum. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in No. 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a safety like Cole Bishop reach pick 124 and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
Ben Sinnott in the 126th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Jarrian Jones at the 131st pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Christian Jones at par in the 133rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at Round 5, Pick 33. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Fabien Lovett a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylan Ford at pick 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value said wait; Andrew Raym in the 219th pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nathaniel Watson at No. 245 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Daijahn Anthony in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 255, where Jalen Sundell graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Proctor is a better player than pick 256 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A slide stopped in the 257th overall pick, with Jordan Whittington worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
