Somebody in the 219th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Tykee Smith, the No. 160 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Logan Jr. left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
With wide receiver unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Javon Bullard at pick No. 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Edgerrin Cooper, who had no business lasting to slot 58. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, Zach Frazier went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 27. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Braden Fiske in the 69th pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Benson at No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Zak Zinter a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Cedric Gray in pick 91 leaves wide receiver for later.
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at the 126th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Mohamed Kamara at par in pick No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Jarrian Jones at slot 138 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Michael Pratt in the 140th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Fair-plus on Khristian Boyd, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 188 with a little surplus value in Jordan Jefferson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Caedan Wallace in the 202nd pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Tykee Smith in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Taking Jared Wiley in Round 7, Pick 21 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Daijahn Anthony slipping to slot 245 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for C.J. Hanson in Round 7, Pick 33; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Frank Crum at No. 255, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
