Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent Round 7, Pick 36 on Jack Westover, a name most had 64 spots down the list.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Puni steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The Packers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 51, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Braden Fiske at the 64th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Zach Frazier, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Payton Wilson was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Max Melton in Round 3, Pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaden Hicks at No. 84 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in slot 88. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in pick 90: Kris Abrams-Draine for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Christian Mahogany at par in No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in the 93rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cole Bishop at Round 3, Pick 35 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braelon Allen. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at the 104th pick that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Dominick Puni at pick No. 113 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Ben Sinnott at slot 114, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid a round early for Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 116, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
