Green Bay Packers

The Packers let Johnson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cornelius Johnson, the No. 186 name on the board, stolen at pick 241.

The Taylor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.6 · Pick 38 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at the 38th pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Morgan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in the 58th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mike Sainristil in pick No. 88. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
You do not let a running back like Trey Benson reach slot 106 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at No. 126 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 170
Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
They read the board right and Walter Rouse was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 211
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drake Nugent. The roster fit checks out.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 194
Trente Jones slipping to pick 202 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 269
A real head-scratcher, Trey Taylor in the 219th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 186
Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 241 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 259
Sam Hartman at slot 245 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
They will replay Daijahn Anthony at the 255th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
