The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 66 spots for Jack Westover, and value like that does not grow back. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Rosemy-Jacksaint at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Junior Colson at pick No. 53, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Braden Fiske at the 58th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 8, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in slot 91; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in pick 104. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Braelon Allen at No. 111 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cole Bishop at the 114th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Cedric Gray at pick No. 116 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A reach on Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Mohamed Kamara at the 120th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 26, where Elijah Jones graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Simpson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hunter Nourzad well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Malik Mustapha in pick 161, and the value did not follow. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at the 169th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Khristian Boyd in No. 171 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fabien Lovett in slot 172 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than Trente Jones at the 178th pick, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 27 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Ryan Flournoy is a better player than slot 221 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Caedan Wallace at the 224th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at pick 227 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Trey Taylor in Round 7, Pick 17 says they were not listening. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They reached into another round for Sam Hartman, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Daijahn Anthony in pick No. 245 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jack Westover at the 255th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A slide stopped in No. 256, with Jalen Sundell worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at Round 7, Pick 39 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
