Green Bay Packers

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent slot 219 on Trey Taylor, a name the board had a full 50 spots lower.

The Suamataia steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 23
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 32
Jackson Powers-Johnson slid further than he should have, and slot 41 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 88 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 97
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on MarShawn Lloyd. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 26 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 170
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 194
The board had Trente Jones higher than the 202nd pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.40 · Pick 215 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 196
Jase McClellan in pick No. 215 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 269
They reached a country mile for Trey Taylor at No. 219, and the board is aghast. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Taulia Tagovailoa · QB · rank 290
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taulia Tagovailoa this early at slot 245. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
A cornerback of that caliber at the 255th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
