Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the No. 67 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 88th overall pick. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They are betting Taylor proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kool-Aid McKinstry at par in pick No. 25, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jonathon Brooks in No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 88 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at slot 91 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good price on Javon Foster in the 126th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 33, value and slot in agreement. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in the 205th pick, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caedan Wallace in slot 219. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalen Sundell in the 245th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Taylor this early at Round 7, Pick 29. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
No drama and no debate, Sam Hartman went about where he belonged in No. 255. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Daijahn Anthony in pick No. 256 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, C.J. Hanson at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
