This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Matt Goncalves, the No. 114 name on the board, stolen at No. 153.
The Taylor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver still on the board.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 26. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Braden Fiske in pick No. 66, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 69 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Max Melton at par in pick 71, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Mahogany in the 88th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaden Hicks in the Round 3 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Trey Benson at the 91st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 2 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A surprising call. With wide receiver still to address, they spent No. 105 on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
No edge and no loss on Spencer Rattler in pick 113; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Ben Sinnott enough to skip the value, taking him in the 115th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Mohamed Kamara at pick No. 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Matt Goncalves in the 153rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Dallin Holker in slot 154, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for Malik Mustapha in No. 155; a little patience would have been rewarded. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Khristian Boyd at Round 5, Pick 33 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joe Milton III at slot 192 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Dillon Johnson was still sitting there in pick 202, and they pounced on premier running back value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nathaniel Watson at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A quiet steal in the 225th overall pick: Caedan Wallace for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Taylor. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board had cheaper options than Jalen Sundell at the 236th pick, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Edefuan Ulofoshio is a better player than pick 245 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Daijahn Anthony at the Round 7 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Sam Hartman at slot 255 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
