The Jack Westover pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 64 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Getting Arnold where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Terrion Arnold in slot 39, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Xavier Legette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Jonathon Brooks in the 50th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 53 with a little surplus value in Edgerrin Cooper. A minor itch, scratched.
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A reach for Marshawn Kneeland in pick No. 65; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at pick 88. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cedric Gray a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They read the board right and Matt Goncalves was the payoff at pick No. 126. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Hunter Nourzad at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Dallin Holker at the 140th pick that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Malik Mustapha enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 26. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jordan Travis in the 169th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Fabien Lovett in No. 186, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Trevin Wallace, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They paid sticker price for Jalen Sundell in the 245th pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sam Hartman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Nick Gargiulo at pick 256, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jack Westover this early at the 257th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
