Somebody in pick No. 245 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Cornelius Johnson, the No. 186 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The cost of the Limmer reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
If Olumuyiwa Fashanu and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Circle this one: Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 9 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at No. 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid up for Spencer Rattler at slot 105 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than Beaux Limmer at the 110th pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ben Sinnott at the 126th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Jarrian Jones at pick No. 131, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Dylan Laube went about where he belonged in the 154th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malik Mustapha in No. 155 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Mason McCormick at Round 5, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Trente Jones in pick No. 196, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylan Ford at pick 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A reach for Trevin Wallace in the 219th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Daijahn Anthony at slot 255 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 256 is the definition of value, full stop. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They liked Trey Taylor enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
