Thirty-one other rooms let Jaylin Simpson slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at Round 6, Pick 44. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Taylor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 58th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
DJ James at Round 3, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Beaux Limmer at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They let Hunter Nourzad come to them and pounced at No. 169. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Dylan Laube still on the board at slot 202. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Jaylin Simpson was still sitting there in the 219th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Trente Jones at slot 245 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Taylor a notch or two before his time. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
