The Joe Milton III pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 31 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Melton steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Legette in the 41st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Max Melton at pick 88 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Beaux Limmer in slot 126; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ben Sinnott at No. 128 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 134. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kitan Oladapo at slot 144 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reach on Malik Mustapha in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in the 201st overall pick, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Logan Lee at pick 202 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than Trevin Wallace at the 219th pick, and it noticed. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Trey Taylor at No. 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid up for Sam Hartman at pick 248 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Evan Anderson at the 255th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
