Nobody else had Trey Taylor anywhere near slot 219. The Packers did, by 49 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Davis steal is the beam this whole class leans on. It is not that Gray is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Graham Barton at pick No. 33 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cooper Beebe at the 49th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 30. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the 65th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at pick 88 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in slot 91 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and wide receiver to take Cedric Gray, a linebacker that was not the priority.
They paid sticker price for Spencer Rattler in slot 115, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Jarrian Jones in pick No. 126; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dallin Holker in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Isaiah Davis all the way to the 183rd overall pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at Round 6, Pick 27, value and slot in agreement. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They jumped the gun on Trevin Wallace, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Sundell went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 25. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Daijahn Anthony at No. 255 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Evan Anderson at the 256th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Sam Hartman at par in pick 257, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
