The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Johnson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Hartman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Budda Baker leading the way.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Kool-Aid McKinstry in No. 25, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cooper Beebe in the 41st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in slot 61. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 28: Mike Sainristil for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dominick Puni at pick 94 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 131 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Sione Vaki in slot 169. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Trente Jones graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cornelius Johnson in Round 6, Pick 36 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylan Ford at the 219th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Sam Hartman at No. 245 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Owens at the 255th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
