When a board-topper like Cornelius Johnson slides to pick 255, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.
They are betting Hartman proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 9 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in the 58th overall pick: Kris Jenkins for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylen Wright at the Round 3 slot is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in pick 91, with Max Melton worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They liked Cedric Gray enough to skip the value, taking him in the 98th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cole Bishop slipping to No. 119 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy little value on Javon Foster in slot 126, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Khristian Boyd in Round 5, Pick 33, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Sam Hartman in slot 202 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylan Ford in pick 219 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Trey Taylor in pick No. 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Trevin Wallace slid further than he should have, and the 246th pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
You do not let a wide receiver like Cornelius Johnson reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 256 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Daijahn Anthony at the 257th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
