Green Bay Packers

The Packers land in the muddy middle: C+.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Kyle Hergel, 88 picks ahead of schedule. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The McCarthy steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
In No. 25 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 23
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 58
Braden Fiske in Round 2, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
Jaden Hicks at the 88th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
Mike Sainristil at slot 91 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 128
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac Guerendo at pick 126, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
Kitan Oladapo slid further than he should have, and the 169th pick is lovely value for the safety. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.30 · Pick 205 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 198
Good price on Curtis Jacobs in pick 205, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 212
Caedan Wallace in slot 219 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · C.J. Hanson · OG · rank 263
They reached into another round for C.J. Hanson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.27 · Pick 247 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trevin Wallace at pick No. 247. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.29 · Pick 249 · Dylan McMahon · C · rank 293
A wild overpay on Dylan McMahon in the 249th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 268
They paid a round early for Trey Taylor in Round 7, Pick 35, more than the board wanted. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Kyle Hergel · OG · rank 344
Kyle Hergel at the 256th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Frank Crum · OT · rank 294
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Frank Crum. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
