The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Rouse at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Dalton Schultz leading the way.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at the 58th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 59, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dominick Puni at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They went early on Isaac Guerendo in pick 120, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in No. 134. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid up for Khristian Boyd at pick 161 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at pick No. 169. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Walter Rouse at the 188th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trente Jones at the 202nd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylan Ford at slot 203, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Cornelius Johnson at No. 207 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Logan Lee in Round 6, Pick 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Trevin Wallace in the Round 6 slot, more than the board wanted. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Value said wait; Trey Taylor in the 248th pick says they were not listening. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A wild overpay on Nick Gargiulo in No. 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Carlton Johnson at slot 256 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and Tarheeb Still was the payoff at pick 257. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
