When a board-topper like Tahj Washington slides to pick No. 245, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.
Hartman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Packers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean is a better player than the 41st overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Haynes at No. 58 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dominick Puni. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cedric Gray in the 91st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 121; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jarrian Jones in slot 136, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Tanor Bortolini in pick 145 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 147, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tip Reiman at pick 169 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in the 202nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Davis at slot 203 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sam Hartman this early at the 207th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Trey Taylor at No. 219, and the board is aghast. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They read the board right and Drake Nugent was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 45. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tahj Washington in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Evan Anderson at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Daijahn Anthony at the 255th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
