The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Baylor Cupp at Round 7, Pick 36 regardless, 90 picks early. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
Landing Watson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
Cooper DeJean slipping to pick 41 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in the 58th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Beaux Limmer at the 92nd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Christian Mahogany graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Ray Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Roger Rosengarten, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Jarrian Jones in pick 126 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kitan Oladapo a notch or two before his time. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Malik Mustapha in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Khristian Boyd at the 169th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Brandon Coleman at Round 5, Pick 36 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylan Ford in the 202nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Taking Cornelius Johnson in slot 210 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Sundell this early at pick No. 219. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Trevin Wallace come to them and pounced at the 241st pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Daijahn Anthony in the 242nd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Nathaniel Watson all the way to No. 245, and they scooped it up. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board had cheaper options than Trey Taylor at slot 255, and it noticed. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Baylor Cupp well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick 257 is a fall that decides a draft. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
