Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Blake Corum, the No. 84 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 120. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They are betting Milton III proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Packers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kris Jenkins. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Junior Colson in No. 53 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Mike Sainristil slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Zak Zinter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Blake Corum in pick No. 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Roger Rosengarten in pick 126, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in slot 169. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tanor Bortolini in Round 5, Pick 36 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trente Jones slid further than he should have, and the 202nd pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in the 219th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in slot 245, with Edefuan Ulofoshio worth more than the price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They went early on Trey Taylor in No. 255, and the value did not follow. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
