The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Joe Milton III went at pick No. 165, a good 35 picks before the board was ready. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Getting Rosemy-Jacksaint where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Junior Colson at slot 51 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Xavier Legette still on the board at the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at No. 66, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Max Melton in pick 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 20. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Brandon Dorlus at the Round 3 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Dominick Puni in pick 91, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
They paid up for Ray Davis at pick No. 94 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at slot 104, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Roger Rosengarten in the 123rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaac Guerendo in No. 126 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Hunter Nourzad in the 128th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Michael Pratt at par in Round 4, Pick 33, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Justin Eboigbe at the 134th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Jarrian Jones in pick No. 138, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Kitan Oladapo enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 26 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Khristian Boyd in slot 163 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at No. 165. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanor Bortolini well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaheim Bell in the 178th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Cornelius Johnson in the 186th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had cheaper options than Logan Lee at pick 202, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 36 with a little surplus value in Jaylan Ford. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 219th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Trey Taylor in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 255 is the definition of value, full stop. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
