Green Bay Packers

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Packers a B-.

Future B-

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Dylan McMahon at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 74 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 24
In pick No. 30 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
A clean, defensible pick in the 41st overall pick with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
Payton Wilson at slot 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Max Melton · CB · rank 77
Value with a capital V on Max Melton in pick 91, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
Nice patience on Jaden Hicks, who had no business lasting to the 93rd pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Ray Davis · RB · rank 109
The board had cheaper options than Ray Davis at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.19 · Pick 119 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
A reach for Ben Sinnott in pick 119; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Hunter Nourzad · C · rank 158
Hunter Nourzad in No. 131 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Michael Pratt · QB · rank 140
By-the-book stuff, Michael Pratt at the 133rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 170
No edge and no loss on Malik Mustapha in Round 5, Pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Tanor Bortolini · C · rank 189
Tanor Bortolini in slot 171 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 178
They took Khristian Boyd at par in pick No. 172, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.20 · Pick 195 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 182
A quiet steal in the 195th overall pick: Ty'Ron Hopper for less than the market said. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 27 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 183
They robbed the room for Tip Reiman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Dylan McMahon · C · rank 293
They talked themselves into Dylan McMahon at the 219th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 266
A real head-scratcher, Trey Taylor in slot 245 is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 259
No drama and no debate, Sam Hartman went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 253
Nothing to complain about; Kimani Vidal went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 257
Tyrice Knight at pick 257 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
