Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Packers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McGlothern. The cost of the Taylor reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Somehow Adonai Mitchell was still sitting there in No. 52, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 66, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Marshawn Kneeland at the 71st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 33, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Ray Davis at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in the 104th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Beaux Limmer in slot 110 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Braelon Allen come to them and pounced at pick 114. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Spencer Rattler at pick No. 116 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Roger Rosengarten in the 118th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Jarrian Jones at No. 138 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Malik Mustapha at No. 154, and it noticed. A minor itch, scratched.
Taking Johnny Wilson in slot 162 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
They went early on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 33, and the value did not follow. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Travis at pick 181 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Tip Reiman at the 202nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 219 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 225th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They talked themselves into Trey Taylor at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They took Tyrice Knight at par in the 255th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
