Nobody had Devin Leary this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 52 spots to get him at slot 255. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They banked enough surplus on Holker to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Graham Barton in slot 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 26, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reach on Ray Davis in the 97th overall pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Beaux Limmer enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Roger Rosengarten at pick 126 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Dallin Holker in the 169th pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 27, where Tanor Bortolini graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Nathaniel Watson in No. 219, just ahead of his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They reached into another round for Trey Taylor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Trevin Wallace in slot 245 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Devin Leary in the 255th overall pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
