The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Cornelius Johnson, Round 7, Pick 25, roughly 58 picks past where he belonged.
Taylor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Cooper Beebe at No. 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jaylen Wright is a better player than pick No. 88 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Renardo Green all the way to the 105th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had cheaper options than Beaux Limmer at the 110th pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at pick 126 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Roger Rosengarten at slot 131 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Malik Mustapha at pick 154 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A wild overpay on Jordan Travis in the 155th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Khristian Boyd in slot 169, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Taking Cornelius Johnson in No. 245 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trey Taylor at the 246th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
