When the story of this class is written, it opens with Trey Taylor at pick No. 226, a reach of 40 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Washington falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Creed Humphrey leading the way.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter.
In pick 27 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Payton Wilson at par in pick No. 58, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ben Sinnott at the 110th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Blake Fisher come to them and pounced at slot 126. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylin Simpson at pick 131 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Justin Eboigbe in slot 133 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had cheaper options than Hunter Nourzad at the 141st overall pick, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 145 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No drama and no debate, Kitan Oladapo went about where he belonged in No. 147. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A premium they did not need to pay, Walter Rouse a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 33 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Cody Schrader at pick 170 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tanor Bortolini at the 171st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
AJ Barner at No. 172 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Khristian Boyd at slot 173, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Malik Mustapha in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Dwight McGlothern at the 175th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a cornerback like Kamal Hadden reach Round 6, Pick 11 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Trente Jones in pick No. 190; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in pick No. 202, and that is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They paid up for Jaden Crumedy at the 210th pick when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tahj Washington at Round 6, Pick 36 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nathaniel Watson at slot 219 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ryan Flournoy in No. 225, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Trey Taylor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Daijahn Anthony at pick 245 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Evan Anderson at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in pick 255, with Jalen Sundell worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
