Call it larceny. Jacob Cowing sat on the board until pick 199, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They will need Ezirim to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Hit on Zach Frazier and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at slot 58, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 77th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Renardo Green in pick 91. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zak Zinter in the 105th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Ray Davis at Round 4, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher untouched.
A reach for Roger Rosengarten in the 126th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 169 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Mustapha. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
No edge and no loss on AJ Barner in slot 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Travis in pick No. 172 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Tanor Bortolini at the 175th pick that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Dwight McGlothern at the 190th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Jacob Cowing at Round 6, Pick 24 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trente Jones in the Round 6 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Jaylan Ford went about where he belonged in slot 207. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Rasheen Ali at No. 210 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Trevin Wallace, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Daijahn Anthony at slot 225 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Trey Taylor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Josiah Ezirim at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Jowon Briggs at Round 7, Pick 25, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalen Sundell at the 253rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Devin Culp well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
