Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent pick No. 248 on Michael Jurgens, a name the board had a full 98 spots lower. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
The McGlothern pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Adding Cameron Dicker by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kool-Aid McKinstry at par in Round 1, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at No. 58, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Renardo Green is a better player than pick 88 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Ray Davis in the 105th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cole Bishop in pick No. 110 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, DeWayne Carter in the 126th pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Roger Rosengarten in slot 128, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Trevor Keegan in No. 134; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Jaylin Simpson in pick 144, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Michael Pratt went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Dallin Holker in pick No. 147; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Mustapha. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Steal is underselling it; Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 27 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for JD Bertrand at No. 203, and the board is aghast. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They liked Jordan Magee enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 207. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Matthew Jones at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Trey Taylor at slot 225, and the board did not agree. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They paid up for Sam Hartman at the 245th pick when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Michael Jurgens, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Jordan Whittington at pick 253 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Trajan Jeffcoat at the 255th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
