The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Kimani Vidal, taking him 33 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Landing Trotter Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Trotter Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, quarterback and other spots.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darius Robinson at No. 49. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Edgerrin Cooper was the payoff at pick No. 58. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, quarterback and other spots to take Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a linebacker that was not the priority.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 91st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 97 on Cole Bishop with cornerback, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Beaux Limmer in No. 115 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at the 126th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in pick No. 169. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid a round early for Caedan Wallace in pick 202, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Kimani Vidal in the 219th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Taylor a notch or two before his time. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They talked themselves into Nick Gargiulo at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
