Green Bay Packers

The Packers let Vaki fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Sione Vaki, the No. 158 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 45. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Every board in the league had Gray lower, and that gap is the story. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.14 · Pick 46 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 47
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia in slot 60 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
Mike Sainristil at the 88th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
They reached a country mile for Cedric Gray at No. 91, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
The board had cheaper options than Cole Bishop at Round 3, Pick 29, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 82
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Michael Hall Jr. in pick 93. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 127
No drama and no debate, Beaux Limmer went about where he belonged in the 126th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Spencer Rattler · QB · rank 117
Spencer Rattler slid further than he should have, and pick No. 134 is lovely value for the quarterback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.15 · Pick 151 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 151
No edge and no loss on Dallin Holker in the 151st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 136
Steal is underselling it; Jarrian Jones at pick 160 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 169
They paid sticker price for Malik Mustapha in slot 169, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.25 · Pick 200 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
They took Jaylan Ford at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Rasheen Ali · RB · rank 206
Rasheen Ali at the 202nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 210
Nice patience on Caedan Wallace, who had no business lasting to pick No. 219. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 158
They barely believed it either: Sione Vaki still on the board at No. 220. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 258
They paid up for Sam Hartman at Round 7, Pick 25 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 252
Kimani Vidal at the 255th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
