Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Josiah Ezirim at the Round 7 slot is 36 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Budda Baker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Dallas Turner come to them and pounced at the 25th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in the 45th overall pick, where Troy Franklin graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 59 with a little surplus value in DJ James. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at slot 66, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at the 71st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Kiran Amegadjie at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Mike Sainristil higher than slot 90, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in No. 91, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Austin Booker all the way to pick No. 104, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

Malik Mustapha in slot 169 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They paid up for Joe Milton III at No. 186 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Jaylan Ford in the 188th pick; the board had better options right there. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Dwight McGlothern at the 202nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Caedan Wallace in pick No. 219, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
