Green Bay Packers

The Packers let McGlothern fall and pounced. Final grade: D-.

Future C+

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Josiah Ezirim at the Round 7 slot is 36 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Budda Baker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Dallas Turner · LB-EDGE · rank 14
They let Dallas Turner come to them and pounced at the 25th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 33
A tidy bit of business in the 45th overall pick, where Troy Franklin graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · DJ James · CB · rank 53
A clean, defensible pick in pick 59 with a little surplus value in DJ James. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at slot 66, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 71
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at the 71st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
Circle this one: Kiran Amegadjie at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 75
The board had Mike Sainristil higher than slot 90, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in No. 91, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Austin Booker · DE-EDGE · rank 77
The board fumbled Austin Booker all the way to pick No. 104, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 107
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braelon Allen. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in pick 110. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 127
Beaux Limmer at the 123rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 136
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach pick 162 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 169
Malik Mustapha in slot 169 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They paid up for Joe Milton III at No. 186 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
A reach on Jaylan Ford in the 188th pick; the board had better options right there. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
Dwight McGlothern at the 202nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 210
Value with a capital V on Caedan Wallace in pick No. 219, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
They paid a round early for Trevin Wallace in No. 225, more than the board wanted. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 236
Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 226 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 262
Trey Taylor in the 245th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Jordan Whittington · WR · rank 248
Fair-plus on Jordan Whittington, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Josiah Ezirim · OL · rank 291
Josiah Ezirim at Round 7, Pick 35 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
