Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

There is reaching, and then there is Joe Milton III at pick 169. The Packers jumped the board by 31 and dared it to prove them wrong.

Getting Schrader where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Colson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 20
In pick No. 25 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at No. 41 when waiting would have done the job. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 52
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Junior Colson in slot 58 leaves edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots for later.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Renardo Green · S · rank 78
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Renardo Green at pick 88. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
A curious use of the 91st pick. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Jaden Hicks did not.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 119
Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They talked themselves into Joe Milton III at slot 169, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Cody Schrader · RB · rank 174
Cody Schrader at Round 6, Pick 27 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 194
Trente Jones in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 262
Trey Taylor in No. 245 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Nick Gargiulo · C · rank 279
A wild overpay on Nick Gargiulo in pick No. 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
