The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Walter Rouse slide 23 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Taylor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 16
In pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
In No. 27 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 58
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in the 58th pick, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 133
By-the-book stuff, Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 156
Dylan Laube slipping to the 169th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
Walter Rouse at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
Jaylan Ford at slot 202 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 233
The board had cheaper options than Trevin Wallace at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 262
They paid a round early for Trey Taylor in pick No. 245, more than the board wanted. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Sam Hartman · QB · rank 258
No edge and no loss on Sam Hartman in the 255th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
