The Packers did not so much draft Trajan Jeffcoat as overpay for him, 55 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will answer for taking safety early while interior defensive lineman went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The Nix value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Steal is underselling it; Taliese Fuaga at the 35th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Graham Barton at pick No. 36 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
You do not let a quarterback like Bo Nix reach Round 3, Pick 1 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Renardo Green in slot 88 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman to take Cole Bishop, a safety that was not the priority.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at slot 124 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at pick No. 126, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 132 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jarrian Jones at Round 4, Pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brandon Coleman in the 152nd overall pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Malik Mustapha in No. 169 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A conviction pick on Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 202 that the board grades a round light. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They paid sticker price for Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 28, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Trevin Wallace in slot 219, and the value did not follow. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They liked Trey Taylor enough to skip the value, taking him in the 245th pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A real head-scratcher, Trajan Jeffcoat in No. 252 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into Omar Brown at the 255th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
