Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Brock Bowers got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at slot 25. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. If Hartman pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, outstanding value to boot.
Graham Barton slid further than he should have, and slot 41 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Payton Wilson at No. 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaden Hicks in the 88th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They did well to land Trey Benson in pick No. 91, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Jarrian Jones in pick 126, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They let Kitan Oladapo come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 33. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at the 202nd pick squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They read the board right and Caedan Wallace was the payoff at the 219th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sam Hartman at slot 245 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Trey Taylor in the 255th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
