The Packers put a flag in the ground for Josiah Ezirim, 38 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 55 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value with a capital V on Roman Wilson in pick 58, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Kris Jenkins, who had no business lasting to the 66th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Renardo Green went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 7. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Jaden Hicks at par in slot 86, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the 88th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for DeWayne Carter in pick 90; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Ben Sinnott in slot 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Roger Rosengarten in the 128th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Jalyx Hunt at pick No. 138 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 155 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They did well to land Dallin Holker in pick No. 158, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Jarrian Jones in the 160th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Malik Mustapha at slot 162, value and slot in agreement. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brandon Coleman well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Joe Milton III at pick 169 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Khristian Boyd at the 181st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had cheaper options than Myles Cole at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trente Jones at Round 6, Pick 27 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trevin Wallace at pick No. 219 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 226th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They jumped the gun on Trey Taylor, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josiah Ezirim. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
