Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Ja'Lynn Polk, the No. 66 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Reaching for Allen left real value on the table behind him. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked T'Vondre Sweat enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 56. A need, and now a little less of one.
Braelon Allen at pick 87 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Ja'Lynn Polk at the 90th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 174; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dwight McGlothern in the 201st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 216 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Sam Hartman in No. 233 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Darius Muasau in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
