The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Devin Culp, taking him 32 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper DeJean in No. 25. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In the 27th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Guyton at the 41st overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Legette in pick No. 58 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Kingsley Suamataia still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cole Bishop at slot 105 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 6 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Roger Rosengarten slid further than he should have, and slot 110 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Zak Zinter higher than the 126th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaac Guerendo. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jordan Travis at No. 162 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for James Williams in pick No. 169, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Khristian Boyd in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 186th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
By-the-book stuff, Nathaniel Watson at slot 202 squarely in line with his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Trey Taylor at Round 6, Pick 44 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Devin Culp. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylon Carlies in No. 255 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
